What Is Capoeira?
An Afro-Brazilian art form practiced around the world.
Capoeira was created in Brazil over 500 years ago as a fusion of cultures, rituals, and traditions during the time of slavery. As Capoeira changed over time, it was disguised as a dance and then used as a tool to help free slaves from their oppressors.
Today, Capoeira is considered one of Brazil's national sports and is practiced in many countries around the world.
What We Learn In Class
- Ginga
- The swinging motion that makes Capoeira seem like a dance.
- Kicks and Escapes
- Round, straight, spinning kicks, plus safe escaping techniques.
- Partner Sequences
- Partner work that breaks down movements and applies them in a game.
- Music and Roda
- Berimbau, atabaque, pandeiro, voice, strategy, and game awareness.

Adult Classes
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:00-7:30PM at Windsor Heights Lutheran Church Gym, 1240 66th Street, Windsor Heights, IA 50324.
Kids Classes
Ages 6-9 meet Tuesdays, 5:45-6:30pm. Ages 10+ meet Thursdays, 6:00-7:00pm. Moulton Elementary program meets Mondays and Thursdays, 2:40-4:30pm.
Payment Options
